When 1+1 is more than two

Filed under: Sunday School, christianity — Tags: — swling @ 1:17 pm

Last week, in the class I was teaching my students that 1+1 =cross. Beyond that is love, then abundant love and finally is about sharing God’s love.

How I did that was getting a 1 biscuit that shows number 1. I told them that everytime they see number 1 they must remember that they serve only 1 God. Most important, we have to share the word of God. As how much we are experiencing God, we also want the rest to experience Him.

Unfortunately, we are always selfish and worry if ‘it is finish’ So from that I actually broke the biscuit and it was extended to two biscuit. I asked them to give 1 of it to their friends.

Similarly, I asked them to fold an A4 paper into halves. They put the rainbow color on left half then place the two halves together. What my intention was is to get them to spread the word of God to their friends too.

Lots to be written here. I really wish that everything I teach someone would be taping this because sometimes I felt it wass not me who is talking there…silly eh?

Anyway, I hope they learnt. I did!

This little light of mine

Filed under: Sunday School, christianity — swling @ 5:29 pm

This idea popped up again when a mother told me that she wanted to celebrate her daughter’s birthday.

I asked my eldest sister to make few egg cup cake.

I get everyone a cup cake and a candle. Switched off the lights and we sang the song and parade round the room.
I edited the song to name it Let us light up Kajang. Wanted them to share the word of God to Kajang community but I guess they were too young to remember.

After that, I get them to draw a candle so that they have a memory of it in their mind.

when devil tries to ruin my trip

Filed under: christianity, experience — swling @ 6:18 am

I will going up to the plane tomorrow morning for my trip to Penang. I wrote this because I was so upset about so many things that did not go according to my plan. Just a few minutes away, I am calm and started to take things easy…God is protecting me and ensuring me that all will be alright.

My colleague bought me lunch and a cup of tea-I appreciates her. another colleague called me to ask if she could help, my heart was touched again.

Now, I will wait till 2.30noon. Then I will go to the exam unit to collect the scripts.I promise myself that no matter what happen, i will try my best to complete my stuff before I leave.

Terrible devil, I will be stronger than you! heh! I just need a rest to regain my energy. God, you have to take care of me from now till next week, OK? I am really tired.

The Lord’s Garden

Filed under: Son Daniel, Son Samuel, Sunday School — swling @ 5:35 pm

22 November 2009 was Ezekiel’s 5 months. It was also my church’s first step to the new sanctuary. We named it The Lord’s Garden. It depicts a safe and comfortable place for the children to learn about the word of God. In His garden is where they will grow and learn to receive blessings of all kinds.

I see my children grow up in the church. They may not be acting obediently but I know this is a process of growing up. I always reminded myself of that song “he is still working on me.” As much as I want my children to be mature and understand my situation, they are still my little children who wants their mother’s attention. I am glad because most of the time, Samuel has been very understanding. Little Daniel is asking for demand but he will be alright. All I need to do is to pray more for him.

I am the light of the world

This Sunday teaching is about the Bible verse ” I am the light of the world.”

In fact, being the light of the world also means being a peacemaker for all the people around you.

OK back to the activities. I think it was by God’s will that the activities turned out like last Sunday. Also this idea comes along when I think of Daniel’s birthday-exactly on the Sunday itself.

1. circle time-sung God is Good and the song I wrote myself Jesus and I

2. Gave each child a candle biscuit and sung This little light of mine. of course, go along with the actions.

3. Celebrate Daniel’s birthday. Emphasised on the candle.

4. Gave each child a cupcake with candle on it. Get them to sing the song again and blow the candle. Get them to move around too.

5. Group them together and get them to pray to transform them to Jesus’s lamb and become the light of the world

6. light the special candle on a cupcake

7. get them to blow the magic candle and witness how the candles are light again automatically (they had real fun!)

8. when the candle goes off, said a prayer “Jesus, make me the light of the world’

9. allow the children to eat the cupcake and summarise and give out worksheet.

I am not sure how much my children understood the activites but I think they had enjoyed themselves so much, especially trying to blow off the magic candles. Have to thank Daniel and God for giving me the idea.

I am the salt of the earth…

I had hard time to decide whether to convey this message to the children. They are only 3 &4 years old. I was asking myself how to convey this message to them?

As usual, if I want to do it, idea would come later. The holy spirit gradually refined my ideas. This was what I did last week.

I had this song written:

Jesus and I are both good friends

I am the lamb and He is my shepherd

Jesus said to me and I must remember

I am the salt of the earth and light of the world

Steps:

Get the children to change water to Ribena again

Showed them salt and asked if anyone knows what it is, no one knows

Get them to wash their hands

gave them each a pinch of salt to taste

Everyone mimicked their face

Get them to drink their Ribena.

I told them that the food that they tasted was salt and it was salt Salt is an important ingredient for cooking. It adds flavour and bla bla bla.

Next step: Role Play

Told them I just came back from the market and brought some vege

We will be cooking vegetables

Did some action-chop vege, fry vege, put in 3 pinch of salt, food tasting-yummy

They played with the set and put in salt

I went around tasting their food and reminded them that food taste well with salt

Salt must not lose it saltiness else we don’t need it anymore

Jesus’s first miracle

Jesus changed water into wine. To illustrate the story and to allow the children to understand the miracle, I get them to change drinking water to RIBENA. Ribena was choose because of the similarity of color and most important, every children loves Ribena. This is what I thought. I found out that Jaye does not like Ribena. Thought she changed the water to Ribena, she refused to drink it.

I finally found my e-mail address. it is as above. the 3 stands for God, Jesus and Holy Spirit-the trinity. As for the whale-I guess I like the idea of how Jonah was locked( actually trapped) inside the whale’s stomuch for three days. During the time, he realised his mistake and repented. I know we are all sinners and in one or another way alsways sin. We need this place to repent.

Hope one day, my dream would come true. pssst…I didn’t spell out my dream right? No need lah. God knows and He will do what He things is right for me.

How I survived on Easter

Filed under: christianity, experience — swling @ 3:34 am

Sunday morning, I woke up restlessly. Having no sleep the night before, leg aching and back aching too, I managed to lead the Sunday school’s activities well.

Though results were not very good, it was considered good-looking at my own condition.  Life could be very difficult especially when we are sick, feeling physically week.

If you have looked at me on Sunday, you would be asking where I gain my strength from? I always have to admit it is the holy spirit working in me as I carry out His plan.

Enjoy this song (I will sing by Don Moen) that I happen to visit in youtube. It was Amazing Grace on Sunday.
